Hemorrhoid Removal
If you have a hemorrhoid, you may become preoccupied with attempts to make it disappear. This painful and annoying condition is actually quite common, affecting nearly fifty percent of all adults in the United Stated. That’s the bad news. But the good news is that under normal circumstances, hemorrhoids will shrink on the own with a few simple lifestyle changes. If a hemorrhoid is particularly persistent or troublesome, there are medical procedures that can assist you in alleviating hemorrhoid symptoms and removal. You can consult with your health care provider on the method of hemorrhoid removal that would be best for your case of hemorrhoids.
Lifestyle Changes
Hemorrhoids will usually disappear on their own with small dietary changes that ease digestion. It’s important to avoid constipation and diarrhea, as these conditions will only aggravate hemorrhoids. Increasing water and fiber consumption in the diet will help to soften and bulk up stools, making them easier to pass. Flaxseed oil and natural enemas can be used to help maintain regularity. Avoid using dry rough toilet paper. Instead, clean the anal area with a warm, wet cloth or baby wipe, to prevent irritation to the sensitive tissue. And try taking a warm sitz bath for ten to fifteen minutes, two to three times a day to reduce swelling and ease the pain associated with hemorrhoids. Do not use aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen as they can cause hemorrhoids to bleed more.
Herbal Treatment for Hemorrhoid Removal
Aloe Vera gel can be applied directly to the anus to provide pain relief and soothe the burning sensation of hemorrhoids. Witch hazel can be used for its astringent properties to shrink hemorrhoidal tissue. Powdered comfrey root can be used in a poultice to heal bleeding hemorrhoids. And bayberry, goldenseal root, myrrh, and white oak can be used in place of conventional hemorrhoid preparations. Other herbs that can be beneficial to hemorrhoid sufferers include buckthorn bark, lady’s mantle, elderberry, mullein, collinsonia root, parsley, red grape vine leaves, and stone root.I recommend the internal formula Hematrex for all hemorrhoid removal and prevention.
Conventional Medications for Hemorrhoid Removal
Conventional medications include anesthetics, vasoconstrictors, astringents, and protectants. Check with your pharmacist or health care provider to determine the medication that would best treat your hemorrhoids.
Medical Procedures for Clot Removal
This is a minor procedure performed for thre removal of external hemorrhoids that can usually be done right in the doctor’s office. After applying a local anesthetic to the affected area, the doctor will simply remove the clot. The wound will be tender for a while as it heals but the hemorrhoidal pain relief will be almost immediate. Little recovery time is required for this procedure.
Rubber Band Ligation
This is a procedure commonly performed to remove prolapsed internal hemorrhoids. As with clot removal, this simple procedure can usually be done in the doctor’s office. The doctor will place a rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid to cut off circulation. The hemorrhoid will shrivel up and fall off on its own in about a week. If several hemorrhoids are present, your health care provider will more than likely perform this procedure on only one at a time.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is also known as injection therapy. It can be used for small hemorrhoid removal. And in comparison to Rubber Band Ligation, injection therapy can be performed simultaneously on multiple hemorrhoids. However, it is not as effective on removing larger hemorrhoids. To perform this technique, your health care provider will inject a hardening agent into the base of the hemorrhoid that cuts off circulation. As with rubber band ligation, the hemorrhoid will fall off on its own in about a week. The development of sclerosed hemorrhoids is a possible complication of injection therapy, however, these cases are rare.
Laser Coagulation
This procedure uses a laser to burn off and remove the troublesome hemorrhoid and destroy hemorrhoidal tissue. It is similar to Infrared Coagulation in which an infrared light is used in place of the laser.
Infrared Coagulation
Similar to Laser Coagulation, this procedure is used to remove hemorrhoids. In this case, an intense beam of infrared light is aimed at the base of the hemorrhoid, causing it to clot, then shrivel, and finally recede.
Hemorrhoidectomy
Hemorrhoid removal, also known as Hemorrhoidectomy, is typically utilized only for severe cases of hemorrhoids. It is usually recommended fto remove large internal or external hemorrhoids, or for hemorrhoids that present extreme symptoms of pain or itching. During this procedure, the hemorrhoid is surgically removed under either local or general anesthesia. This procedure usually requires a hospital stay of three to ten days followed by postoperative recovery at home for two to four weeks. In rare cases, hemorrhoid removal can lead to severe pain, heavy bleeding, scarring, or the inability to pass a bowel movement.
PPH: Procedure For Prolapse And Hemorrhoids
This procedure is also known Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy, Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy, and Circumferential Mucosectomy. PPH is a technique that removes the prolapse of hemorrhoidal tissue by excising a band of the prolapsed membrane with a stapling device. The excess tissue is removed and the remaining hemorrhoidal tissue is stapled, allowing the hemorrhoid to return to its original anatomical position. Some patients report less pain and a shorter postoperative recovery with this procedure. However, as with any medical procedure, there are potential, if rare, risks involved. PPH can cause, persistent pain, bowel dysfunction, damage to the rectal wall and stretching of the sphincter.
